Clear Creek Falls History

I found this article about the history of Clear Creek Falls and Falls City on Smith Lake. It dates back to the 1800s. http://www.freestateofwinston.org/fallscity.htm  It is kind of a long article, but there is some interesting information buried in it. The residents tried to promote Clear Creek Falls as a tourist attraction. They saw Smith Lake as an impossibility, and there was no perceived value. The irony is that the government recreational areas were built only after Smith Lake was created.
